Turns out about 40 percent of the delegates needed to secure the nomination are controlled by “super delegates,” elected officials like members of congress and party bigwigs. With the increasingly likely event that neither Clinton nor Obama will have the nomination locked up by convention time, these people will decide who wins.
I wonder what kind of promises you could extract in exchange? Ambassador to Italy? Want to be a federal judge? Got a lame defense project that generates a lot of jobs in your district? No problem.
Guess the masses can’t quite be trusted to decide who represents the party. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Early money would probably have bet on Billary, but with the Ted and Caroline Kennedy backing Obama, we could be looking at a low grade civil war among democrats to decide the nominee.
